Internal Affairs

The purpose of Internal Affairs is to ensure the integrity of the Socorro Police Department through the objective and intensive investigation of allegations of police misconduct. Upholding the integrity and reputation of our police force is vital if we are to accomplish our mission of maintaining our credibility and respect both from the Public and our service among our officers to foster and maintain trust between the departments, outside agencies, and most importantly the Socorro community.

Professional Standards

Filing a Compliment or Complaint

Any person who has been directly affected by an employee’s alleged misconduct may submit a formal complaint against said employee.  A person does not have standing to file a complaint if the person only witnessed the incident, does not have personal knowledge of the incident or is attempting to file on behalf of a friend or family member, unless the family member is a minor.

Please note that all administrative incidents will have a standard timeline of 180 days from the date of the incident and all criminal cases will have a 2-year timeline.

Instructions for completing the affidavit:

  1. The affidavit must be completed by a person who is over the age of 18 and has personal knowledge of the events at issue.

  2.  The person completing the affidavit must provide sufficient details of the events at issue.

  3. The affidavit must be signed by the person completing the document and the signature notarized by a notary.

Police explorers program

The Police Explorers Program is another opportunity for young people to take a look into the duties of a police Officer as well as consider their own future in police work. The program is largely educational and based on experiences that participants will gain as they take on realistic training that will mirror the actual responsibilities of an Officer. This program will also incorporate Ride Along sessions that will allow participants to shadow an Officer while they are on patrol.
